Abruzzo, a land still intact due to its prolonged isolation, revealed itself to Ashby as a region rich in ancient traditions and monuments to be discovered. Aware of the precariousness of these places, the English archaeologist left no aspect undocumented, and as a keen observer, he took notes and photographed everything he witnessed.
