Kerstin Kartscher, Bridget Riley Fellow at the BSR 2023/24, presents to the public two new installations developed during her residency, inspired by the occupied cultural spaces in Rome and their role of care and recreation. The installation don't care combines two awnings with drawings and clothes hanging from a long washing line, suggesting the idea of washing as an act of care. The ink drawings on the shirts depict fragments of architecture and urban elements, while the painted anti-war buttons refer to the importance of political resistance in the CSOAs (Occupied Self-Managed Social Centres). Kartscher's second work, go deeper with friends, shows an explosive ink drawing on a wall, depicting an abstract map of Rome. Hidden behind a fragile awning, the drawing maps out the occupied spaces the artist has explored.
