Dario Carratta paints dystopian visions that materialise on canvas through characters on the borderline between physical reality and the ephemeral world of dreams. However, the dreamlike nature of his paintings is more dark than idyllic, pervaded by a sombre mood that seems to recall a post-human existentialism. Through universal symbols and archetypes, Carratta builds a bridge between the external and internal environment, revealing the anxieties, desires and contradictions that dwell deep within the human soul. His work in the exhibition, Il seme occulto (The Occult Seed), portrays a creature without time or history, marked by a gash on its belly that evokes an imminent and mysterious birth.
