Walking the Via Amerina

Ashby also traversed sections of the Via Amerina in the years immediately prior to WWI. Ashby’s photographs allow us to map one of his short tours of the road through Lazio in late 1911/early 1912. Arnold J. Toynbee may have accompanied Ashby on this trip as it occurred soon after their joint cycling expeditions along the Via Flaminia and Via Salaria in October/November 1911.

This tour of the Via Amerina started just north of Corchiano, with the travellers walking in a southerly direction along the ancient road to the site of Falerii Novi.
